Painted in 1976, The Mighty Blackfoot was created during that brief window when Terpning, the illustrator, was intersecting with Terpning, the fine artist. By 1977, he pulled the trigger and uprooted his life to move to Tucson, Arizona, where he made Western art history. This work is also unique because it is one of the earliest paintings of a Blackfoot warrior by the artist. The tribe remains a favorite subject for Terpning.
