Provenance: Private collection, Texas Many Western painters were inspired by the French Impressionists, though none as fully as Robert Daughters, who used light and technique to create new depictions of the Southwest across half a century. Born in Missouri, Daughters first worked as a fashion painter, a greeting card artist and he owned his own commercial arts studio. After honeymooning in Taos, New Mexico, in 1953, he later moved to Northern New Mexico in 1970. It was in Taos where he brought impressionism to the West after being influenced by the work Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. Among his favorite subjects were snow scenes, canyons, Rancho de Taos’ St. Francis de Assisi church and, as seen here, aspens.
