William Slaughter had to take a unique path to art: after serving in the Air Force during World War II, he became an ordained Lutheran pastor. Ministry work took the Texan all around the Southwest, including to Mexico, where he first encountered his love of art. By the late 1960s, the artist, in his 40s and largely self-taught, was pursuing art full time. Many of his paintings show the beauty of Texas, including the state’s famous bluebonnets.
