“Champion of the West is a tribute to the life of William ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody, encompassing objects that characterize the man who began his career as a U. S. Cavalry scout, became an Indian fighter, and then, most famously, founded Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and Congress of Rough Riders of the World. I tried to capture his spirit as a visionary who brought together the extraordinary figures right out of the history of the American West—Wild Bill Hickok and Sitting Bull, for example— and presented them to the world, even as the Old West that had shaped them, and that they had shaped, was coming to an end. I want Champion of the West to reflect the romance that Buffalo Bill saw in the mythical West as it springs from the objects such as his Winchester Rifle, and his fringed and beaded gloves.” — Kyle Polzin
