Edward Fraughton’s Where Trails End was one of President Ronald Reagan’s favorite Western bronzes and was often seen in the Reagan White House. The severing
of the bond between cowboy
and horse in the teeth of a snowstorm, a bond Fraughton
once compared to the Greek centaur—“man and horse working together almost as one body” epitomizes the artist’s interest in unity and balance
in all of his compositions.
