Arnold Friberg simply wanted his art to “tell a story.” Friberg worked with Norman Rockwell, Harvey Dunn, Cecil B. DeMille and many others, specializing in Westerns and historical scenes. He loved to paint horses, an art he deemed “next to worship.” Twenty-seven mounted Indians cross the magisterial, muralistic masterpiece, Crossing the Tribal Border. As if lit by flickering flames (a Friberg trademark) the Indians, girded for battle, move down the hillside and across the creek, the tribal border of the title.
