Born in Texas into a family that valued education, Goodacre sailed to Europe on the Queen Elizabeth when she was sixteen, soaked up the culture and returned determined to make a life by making art. After college, her paintings came to the attention of New Mexico art legend Forrest Fenn. A small chunk of wax given by Fenn to Goodacre encouraged her to try her hand at sculpture. In 1969 she produced her first piece, Ballerina, and never looked back. After pursuing her craft in Italy she embarked on her singular career: creating figures large and small, singly and in composed groups, expressive Native Americans and pioneers, children, and the elderly. She has executed commissioned portraits of noted figures, public monuments, and designed the Sacagawea dollar coin.
