Borrowing a technique from Thomas Hart Benton, Harry Jackson created Iroquois Guide as a three-dimensional rendering of a figure for a mural of the French and Indian War in Fort Pitt in Pittsburgh. Jackson wanted to convey the idea that “those frontier men are free because they know how to do things, they have mastered certain disciplines, and they’re self-sufficient and happy with that idea.” (Goddard and Pointer, p. 219)
