Dixie Jewitt’s crazy clockwork horses, welded pieces of rusted machinery, are “found object” masterworks. A life-sized Jewitt horse like Ironfire is sort of irresistible, wanting you to look at it as a horse, to identify its individual components, and to marvel at how the whole thing was done. A horse made out of machinery? Why not? After all, don’t we measure engines by their horsepower? Turnabout is fair play.
