A native of Montana, Tim Shinabarger grew up near his beloved northern Rocky Mountains, though his career has taken him across the nation and around the world as he seeks new subjects for his award-winning wildlife bronzes. Of Sik Sik Shell Game, Shinabarger says, “Sik Sik” is the Inuit word for the arctic ground squirrel. In the soft Alaskan tundra, the squirrel’s burrow often has many funnel-like entrances. While the bear is furiously digging in one entrance, the prey may escape out the back door. If the bear sees or hears the squirrel leave, he pursues it to another entrance and begins digging all over again. Like a shell game, it becomes a game of chance for both predator and prey.”
