A Western master in oil, watercolor, gouache, and bronze, Gordon Snidow was a working cowboy and one of the charter members of the Cowboy Artists of America. Snidow, one of the first painters to make the women of the west an important part of his art, describes his artistic progress in the following way, “My childhood dreams of making pictures like Charlie Russell and Frederic Remington still persist. With maturity, I realized that the West, as I saw it in their paintings, was only a time in history. The West didn’t die when the open range was fenced—it only changed… I paint the cowboys as I see them today, doing the things I see them doing.”
